A little bit more about me...

Looking through photographs, it brings us back to the thoughts and feelings we had during those brief moments in time.

As I was putting together my new website, I gave a lot of thought into what I would like to say in my bio. But when it comes to talking about yourself, what do you say? Do you tell of your past and where you came from? Do you tell of your hopes and dreams for the future? Do you tell of your interests and hobbies? Maybe it is all of these or maybe it is none, but I will try nonetheless.

I grew up in the Kootenays as an artsy kid. I loved all forms of art, from painting to books to music. I fell in love with photography in my late teens and it has been a huge part of my life ever since. Travel, coffee, dogs, books...maybe I’ll add travel there one more time. These are a few of the things that make me the happiest. And my family. My wife, two kids and pup...they are the best things in the world.

I used to be a bit shy but not anymore, and now I will talk to strangers for hours. I am drawn to people and stories and I take pride in being a good listener. My friendly demeanour and calm nature allows people to relax and feel comfortable around me. I’m sensitive to people's emotions and get teary eyed during a couple’s vows probably more times than I am comfortable with, but that is something I am learning to accept.

In thinking about my chosen profession, I tried to break it down and identify what it is that I really love about wedding photography. It may sound corny, but the first point it really came down to is love. True love. Sixteen years ago I met the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and to my amazement, she had noticed me too. My wife and I’s love story is pretty crazy, being from two different countries and meeting in a third. The first couple years of our relationship was spent mostly apart, but there was this feeling that we had to be together. I think now I am drawn to capturing other couple’s stories, as I know how important they really are.

The second reason is my belief in the power of a photograph. Some moments happen so quick, and not until later do you realize how important they really are. I have a photograph of my son being held by my grandfather for the very first time, his little fingers just grasping the old weathered hand. It turned out that it was the last time they would see eachother as my grandfather passed soon after. I also have photographs of our travels throughout the world, and the sheer joy that we shared in those places abroad. Looking through photographs, it brings us back to the thoughts and feelings we had during those brief moments in time. I know we all have those few images that will forever be in our hearts and in our minds.

I truly love photography and feel grateful everyday to be able to do it for a living. I am thankful and honoured for the trust my couples put in me, and I strive to tell every story in an honest and beautiful way.

A few random facts

Whistler Wedding photographer

Travel is the best. I have been lucky enough to visit many places around the world, and I would say Jerusalem, Amman, Lisbon and Moscow are my favourites. Oh, and all of Japan. Japan is amazing.

If I didn’t live in Whistler, Tofino would be my home for sure.

Virgo (although I didn’t put much into star signs until I married a Scorpio)

Fast and The Furious lover (1st and 5th are the best)

Hard-core coffee drinker (the darker the better)

Dog lover (I wanted a Great Dane but we settled on a lab. Apparently the drool was the main factor)

I once held a groom back from getting hit with a shovel by an unruly neighbour. True story.
