Growing up in a small mountain town in the West Kootenays, I didn’t really know a lot about large cities. With their towering highrises, endless streets and crowds of people, I found them intimidating. They were an unknown to me…a place to get lost. Today, these are some of my favorite things about Vancouver.
Having travelled much of the world, I still find Vancouver one of the most fascinating places I have ever been. Its beauty is incredible, and its diversity is like no other. As a photographer, I find myself walking through its winding streets happily getting lost in its character and lifestyle. There are so many interesting places within Vancouver that one could never tire of exploring. For these reasons and more I love to photograph weddings here.
The amazing diversity of Vancouver wedding photography locations inspires me every time I set out in search of new places to photograph my brides and grooms.
For a beautiful natural setting, with deep forests, sandy beaches and a picturesque seawall, Stanley Park has been called one of the world’s greatest urban parks and is a great place to consider for your photos. Gastown, with its cobblestone streets and Victorian style buildings, takes you back to the very birth of this beautiful city for a historical touch. For more of an upscale fashion feel, there is the chic neighborhood of Yaletown. And for a unique industrial feel, with lively colors and a distinct character, there is the hustle and bustle of Granville Island.
Just outside the downtown core of Vancouver, another world of possibilities open up. For a slightly quieter location through the summer months, with incredible architecture and a wonderful First Nations flare, the campus at UBC offers a wide variety of photographic opportunities. A short drive from UBC opens up to the sandy beaches of Spanish Banks, with giant driftwood logs and a beautiful view of Vancouver in the distance. And if you want to get away from it all, the marine village of Steveston, just south of Vancouver, offers a wonderful boardwalk along its busy little harbor.
Among these popular locations are hidden gems within. Turn a corner in Gastown to reveal a quiet alleyway. Step off the Stanley Park seawall to get lost in its magical woods. Follow a narrow path through the buildings of Granville Island to reveal a winding staircase you may have never seen. Everywhere you go in Vancouver, there is a new place to discover and another form of beauty.
With this love for exploring within this amazing city, I am constantly out in search of new Vancouver wedding photography locations. I want to find these hidden gems and discover the romance that a wedding can bring to them. I want to find something different. I truly love wedding photography, and being in a city as beautiful and diverse as Vancouver, I seek to express my love for discovery through creativity. Vancouver continues to inspire me, and with every wedding I photograph here, I feel more and more intimate with one of the most fascinating cities in the world.
